Polynomials in Algebra

Polynomials are defined as a finite sum of terms, with only nonnegative integer exponents placed on the variables. A variable is a letter or symbol used to represent an element form a given set. They generally represent real numbers, unless notified.

Monomial is a single term polynomial
Binomial contains exactly two terms
Trinomial contains exactly two terms

Here are certain properties that algebra students should study:

Difference of Two Squares

(x + y)(x – y) =  x2 + y2

Square of a Binomial

(x + y)2 = x2 + 2xy + y2

(x - y)2 = x2 – 2xy + y2

Cube of a Binomial

(x + y)3 = x3 + 3x2y + 3xy2 + y3

(x – y)3 = x3 – 3x2y + 3xy2 – y3
